Big shoutout to CMS 7th grader Taegan Dexter for clinching victory with his outstanding Patriot’s Pen essay! His essay stood out among entries from 16 schools in VFW District 13, earning him the top spot at the district level. If his essay secures a spot in the top three at the state level, Taegan and his family will be invited to the grand State Awards ceremony in Lincoln later in January or February. Last Friday was an exciting day at Cozad High School and Middle School! Thomas Valles, a star of the '87 California state champion cross country team featured in Disney's "McFarland, USA," shared his incredible journey with our students. Hosted by Claude and Karen Berreckman, Valles inspired us all with his message of overcoming challenges and adversity. In the evening, the Fox Theater in Cozad was buzzing with energy as Mr. Valles joined cross country athletes from the area for a special screening of "McFarland, USA." What a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect with such a motivational figure! Huge thanks to Claude and Karen Berreckman for making this happen and allowing our students to hear Valles' empowering message. Let the inspiration continue!

During our plants unit in Kindergarten, we learned what plants needed to grow. We decided to try it out ourselves! We grew our grass as tall as possible throughout our unit and watered our grass daily. When our unit was done, we made a face for our plant, cut their hair, and turned our cups of grass into new friends! #HaymakerWay
