The Cozad High School National Honor Society again held their annual Food Pantry Canned Food Drive competition in late November. A total of 13,111 pounds of food and $1,265 in cash donations were raised to help local families with Christmas boxes and food throughout the winter season. This is an annual community service project that our schools participate in and is a great opportunity for our students to give back to our community. As has been the tradition, classes compete against each other to earn early dismissal time on the last day of school for the semester. Below are the results of this year's Food Drive Competition.
4th PLACE - Sophomores – 487.6 pounds of food – dismissed after 7th period on December 21st
3rd PLACE - Freshmen – 1639.4 pounds of food – dismissed after 3rd period (they also met their class goal)
2nd PLACE - Juniors – 2562 pounds of food – dismissed after 3rd period.
1st PLACE - Seniors – 8422.9 pounds of food – NO SCHOOL December 21st!

Good Luck to our CHS Wrestlers today and tomorrow. JV Wrestlers are competing today (Friday) at the Ravenna Invite. Varsity traveled to Valentine to compete today and tomorrow at their Invite. Go Haymakers!

Shout out to our Middle School Students and Staff for a successful Paper Product Drive. Cozad Middle School students worked to collect paper products, laundry detergent and soap for the Cozad Food Pantry. This community service project is one that supplies the Food Pantry with the majority of those products for the entire year. The Food Pantry was very appreciative of all of the donations this year. A big thank you to Mrs. Kostrunek, Mrs. Teahon and Mrs. Walls for helping with this project. The student body donations were as follows: 8th grade 1st place- 4200 points, 6th grade 2nd place- 3300 points and 7th grade 3rd place- 2000 points. For their hard work, CMS Dismissal Times for Tuesday, December 21st are as follows: 8th grade, NO SCHOOL, 6th Grade will be dismissed at 10:00, and 7th Grade at Noon (7th graders will eat lunch at school).

In the fall of the school year we were allowed to adjust our calendars for teachers and students. I, along with district administrators, have tried over the last semester to continue our learning as usual but with high numbers of Covid many of our opportunities to allow teachers to attend professional development have not been possible due to high absence rates of teachers and students with Covid or a lack of substitute teachers. Therefore I asked the board to make 4 adjustments to the calendar for the second semester to accomplish these tasks.
On the following days there will be no school for students:
January 4, 2022
March 28, 2022
April 14, 2022
May 2, 2022 if we do not exceed our allotted snow days.
We appreciate your help and understanding as we continue to strive to create a quality educational environment for your children.

Congratulations to the following Economic students

Seniors and Senior Parents,
On Wednesday, December 15th, from 5:00 to 8:00PM, we will be having a senior scholarship night at the high school library. This one will be a little different then normal because Jodi from Education Quest will be coming in and helping students and parents with their free application for federal student aid (FAFSA). For a lot of scholarships, students need a FAFSA completed, so it is important that students and parents both set up a FAFSA account and go through the process. The FAFSA will get you an expected family contribution (EFC) number which shows how much a family can help or not help a student pay for college. Students' EFC can qualify students for financial aid, like grants, work study, scholarships and loans.
Jodi is an expert at the FAFSA process and can really make the process easier. This will save you a trip to Kearney. So please try and make it tomorrow, Wednesday the 15th, in the high school library between 5:00-8:00PM to have Jodi help you. When you come, it shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to get your account set up.
The following website tells you what you will need to bring to fill out the FAFSA. It is important that both student and parents come because you will both need to learn the process you will be required to complete every year to get financial aid in college.
