Update from Superintendent Mr. Ron Wymore
3/13/2020
Update on response to COVID-19
As you may be aware, Governor Ricketts along with Education Commissioner Blomstedt held a news conference this morning addressing the spread and response to COVID-19. Governor Ricketts commented that the state will mandate school closure if cases of COVID-19 show up that cannot be tracked to verified contact. Currently this will be done by ESU districts. Thus, if ESU 10 or possibly a neighboring ESU area has confirmed cases, the state will mandate a 6 to 8-week closure. I underlined currently due to things changing daily. At last count there are 13 cases in Nebraska and 0 in the Two Rivers area. The reason for closures and cancellations will be to slow down the spread of the virus.
There are many sites that you can go to for updated information and ways to prevent the spread of the virus. Two Rivers (https://www.trphd.org/ ) is an excellent site to get useful and up-to-date information.
The administration will be having daily meetings to stay abreast of information and keeping you informed of any decisions that we make regarding this situation. Sponsors and coaches are finding out that most if not all events are being canceled. NSAA has postponed District and State Speech and the SWC has cancelled the conference art/music clinic that was to be held in Minden.
OPAA is working closely with the school to maintain a safe environment in the lunch room areas. A couple of things that we will be doing:
All students will be required to use hand sanitizer before going through the lunch line.
New cups will be required when getting additional drinks.
If you are not feeling well, please stay home. If you are running a fever of 100 degrees or above you must stay home until you are fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine to reduce the fever.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this pandemic.
Ron Wymore
Superintendent
The NSAA is aware of the fluidity of COVID-19 and the potential impact hosting statewide events could have regarding the on-going public health threat. Many of our member schools are making decisions in the best interest of their student participants, coaches and communities. The NSAA is regretfully suspending district and state speech contests until further notice.
