CMS Spelling Bee February 2026

Cozad Middle School recently hosted its annual spelling bee, showcasing the talents of nine outstanding finalists.  The finalists competed to win part of the Hershel Olson Family Memorial Spelling Bee Award.  After many intense rounds of spelling, Mallory Geiger emerged as the 1st place winner.  Mallory is a 6th grader at Cozad Middle School and will compete at the state spelling bee in Omaha in March.  Braylee Carlson, an 8th Grader, received 2nd place, and Ivy Russell, a 6th grader finished in 3rd place.

The finals featured nine students who demonstrated extraordinary spelling skills.  This years finalists included: Max Bazata, Kasen Yilk, Braylee Carlson, Elizabeth Moo, Chloe Russell, Santiago Casillas, Ivy Russell, Mallory Geiger, and Kamrynn Rhoades.

This annual event was made possible through the generous support of Mr. Joel Carlson, who sponsored the prizes for the winners.  Cozad Middle School also recognizes Mrs. Walls, who serves as the spelling bee coordinator, and Mrs. Jann Kloepping, who returns each year to read the words for the competition.

Mallory Geiger will now prepare for the State Spelling Bee which takes place at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she will represent Cozad Middle School against spellers from across the state.

Congratulations to all the finalists and best of luck to Mallory at state!
