PLEASE NOTE: This information that is being collected is NOT for planning any school closure--it is data that we submit to the Nebraska Department of Ed. Parents, Students and Community Members:
As you are probably aware, Two Rivers has moved their dial to RED status for this week. Superintendents in the area received an email yesterday from Two Rivers telling us how "impressed they are with the measures we have implemented to protect our students and staff. Schools have proven to be a very safe place for those in the buildings with very little school-based transmissions of COVID19. Having seen the strenuous efforts area schools have employed to protect their students and staff, we are recommending changes in school based plans to allow continuance of in person schooling during pandemic levels of risk."
Thus under the recommendation of Two Rivers and our own tracing, as can be seen daily on our dashboard, we are going to continue what we are doing. At this time, Cozad Community Schools is not moving our dial. As a parent and/or community member you can monitor our Covid tracking status at https://rb.gy/jw7yb7 . This information is updated daily. Please be assured we are doing everything possible to maintain a safe environment for your child.
Sincerely,
Mr. Ron Wymore, Superintendent
Cozad Community Schools

Haymaker Fans: With the upcoming Sub-District and District events, we wanted to share the 2020 NSAA Guidelines for ALL sub-districts, districts, and playoffs for the NSAA. The following information is directly from NSAA:
As the fall regular season draws to a close, the NSAA calls upon member schools to host sub-districts, districts, and playoffs for the NSAA. In most activities, the team with the highest seed earns the right to host these events. In other activities, member schools volunteer to host. The health and safety of students, staff, and local communities remain the priority of the NSAA. The NSAA is implementing the following requirements for host schools of all NSAA fall sub-district, district, and playoff contests:
*Participants are permitted to wear face coverings during competition, but not required.
*Coaches and non-active participants are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings.
*Spectators are required to wear face coverings at all times while attending indoor events.
*Spectators are required to wear face coverings at all times while attending outdoor events when physical distancing (6ft) is not possible.
*The host school may establish additional requirements in consultation with local health departments. Any additional requirements implemented by the host school must be the same for all teams, officials, and spectators.
All participating schools and spectators are expected to adhere to these requirements. Communication, flexibility, and patience will be key in helping to support our high school student participants as they pursue an NSAA State Championship this fall. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Parents & Students:
The school district has worked hard to ensure that students have access to technology that supports the acquisition of academic standards during this time of school closure. Please remember this is a tool to access school resources and not a toy. Students are responsible for the appropriate care and use of district property. Students will be held accountable for damaging or destroying all district property (includes power cords, screens and the device itself).
Parents, please remind your children not to eat, drink, or play around their school device. We have seen many spills and breaks this week. A reminder that students/parents can be held accountable for negligent damage. We appreciate your help. Thank you!

Cozad Community Schools has the following openings for the 2020-2021 school year: Middle School Physical Education Teacher (6-8), High School Family Consumer Science Teacher, and High School Media Specialist.

Notice: Based on the recommendations of Two Rivers Public Health Department, the playgrounds at all Cozad Community Schools are now closed. We will be closing the playgrounds to practice social distancing and slow the spread of COVID-19.

Message from the Summer Youth Baseball/Softball Board: It is with a heavy heart that the Cozad Little League Board has made the decision to cancel the 2020 Summer Baseball/Softball program. The school’s announcement today that the school facility and all activities would now be cancelled until May 31, prompted our decision that in the best interest of our youth and community we must cancel the ball season.
Those of you that wrote checks to the Cozad Little League, those checks will now be shredded. Those of you that paid in cash, we will be mailing refund checks to you in the very near future.
Please take care and be safe. We look forward to working with everyone in the 2021 season. God Bless.

Message from Cozad Community Schools Superintendent Ron Wymore: This is to let you know that the school buildings will be closed until at least May 31st. This is a part of a new Directed Health Measure issued by Governor Ricketts. Graduation is postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date in accordance with regulations from the Two Rivers Health. NSAA has cancelled all activity practices and competitions including district and state competitions for the remainder of the school year.
Cozad Community Schools will continue with our on-line education for all students until the end of the school year. Your child needs to make sure to do the on-line activities and assignments for the rest of the year. Not doing the assignments could jeopardize their credits for the second semester classes.
Stay healthy and practice social distancing.

Parents: We will be adding Weekend meals to the Grab and Go meal service. We will send 3 meals home with students on Friday so that they have food over the weekend. The district and OPAA! are trying to ensure the students of Cozad have nutritious meals.
Unfortuantely, we are no longer able to do the Snack each day. NDE is reconsidering if we can serve it during the shutdown.
We will be having Chicken and Waffles today and Chicken Patty with Mashed Potatoes tomorrow. We are trying to continue to serve food that our students love while they are away from school.
Parents and Students may look up the menus at cozadschools.nutrislice.com. They may also download the Nutrislice Ap for their cell phone. Reminder, these meals are FREE for ALL children ages 1-18 and we have 6 pickup locations.

Our teachers miss you! On Wednesday, April 1st at 6:00 pm, Cozad Elementary and CEEC staff will drive through neighborhoods to say hello! Please practice Social Distancing/Staying Safe at Home Rules if you are lining your streets. You may also just park and wave from your car! Please see the route on the attached map. We hope that we can see many smiling faces and waves!

Update from Superintendent Mr. Ron Wymore
3/13/2020
Update on response to COVID-19
As you may be aware, Governor Ricketts along with Education Commissioner Blomstedt held a news conference this morning addressing the spread and response to COVID-19. Governor Ricketts commented that the state will mandate school closure if cases of COVID-19 show up that cannot be tracked to verified contact. Currently this will be done by ESU districts. Thus, if ESU 10 or possibly a neighboring ESU area has confirmed cases, the state will mandate a 6 to 8-week closure. I underlined currently due to things changing daily. At last count there are 13 cases in Nebraska and 0 in the Two Rivers area. The reason for closures and cancellations will be to slow down the spread of the virus.
There are many sites that you can go to for updated information and ways to prevent the spread of the virus. Two Rivers (https://www.trphd.org/ ) is an excellent site to get useful and up-to-date information.
The administration will be having daily meetings to stay abreast of information and keeping you informed of any decisions that we make regarding this situation. Sponsors and coaches are finding out that most if not all events are being canceled. NSAA has postponed District and State Speech and the SWC has cancelled the conference art/music clinic that was to be held in Minden.
OPAA is working closely with the school to maintain a safe environment in the lunch room areas. A couple of things that we will be doing:
All students will be required to use hand sanitizer before going through the lunch line.
New cups will be required when getting additional drinks.
If you are not feeling well, please stay home. If you are running a fever of 100 degrees or above you must stay home until you are fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine to reduce the fever.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this pandemic.
Ron Wymore
Superintendent

The NSAA is aware of the fluidity of COVID-19 and the potential impact hosting statewide events could have regarding the on-going public health threat. Many of our member schools are making decisions in the best interest of their student participants, coaches and communities. The NSAA is regretfully suspending district and state speech contests until further notice.

The Nebraska Department of Education asked Nebraska’s educators to help survey parents, students, businesses, community members and organizations to learn their opinion about the quality of and access to Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs and resources available in all Nebraska schools.
We are asking for our parents' and patrons' help in sharing your opinion by completing the survey attached. We ask that this be completed by August 31 at which time the survey will close.
This survey allows you to provide valuable input for the development of Nebraska’s new four-year CTE State Plan and ensuring each student has access to high-quality CTE experiences. It should only take 10-15 minutes to complete. Thank you in advance!
