Parents & Students: The school district has worked hard to ensure that students have access to technology that supports the acquisition of academic standards during this time of school closure. Please remember this is a tool to access school resources and not a toy. Students are responsible for the appropriate care and use of district property. Students will be held accountable for damaging or destroying all district property (includes power cords, screens and the device itself). Parents, please remind your children not to eat, drink, or play around their school device. We have seen many spills and breaks this week. A reminder that students/parents can be held accountable for negligent damage. We appreciate your help. Thank you!

Message from the Summer Youth Baseball/Softball Board: It is with a heavy heart that the Cozad Little League Board has made the decision to cancel the 2020 Summer Baseball/Softball program. The school’s announcement today that the school facility and all activities would now be cancelled until May 31, prompted our decision that in the best interest of our youth and community we must cancel the ball season. Those of you that wrote checks to the Cozad Little League, those checks will now be shredded. Those of you that paid in cash, we will be mailing refund checks to you in the very near future. Please take care and be safe. We look forward to working with everyone in the 2021 season. God Bless.
Message from Cozad Community Schools Superintendent Ron Wymore: This is to let you know that the school buildings will be closed until at least May 31st. This is a part of a new Directed Health Measure issued by Governor Ricketts. Graduation is postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date in accordance with regulations from the Two Rivers Health. NSAA has cancelled all activity practices and competitions including district and state competitions for the remainder of the school year. Cozad Community Schools will continue with our on-line education for all students until the end of the school year. Your child needs to make sure to do the on-line activities and assignments for the rest of the year. Not doing the assignments could jeopardize their credits for the second semester classes. Stay healthy and practice social distancing.
Parents: We will be adding Weekend meals to the Grab and Go meal service. We will send 3 meals home with students on Friday so that they have food over the weekend. The district and OPAA! are trying to ensure the students of Cozad have nutritious meals. Unfortuantely, we are no longer able to do the Snack each day. NDE is reconsidering if we can serve it during the shutdown. We will be having Chicken and Waffles today and Chicken Patty with Mashed Potatoes tomorrow. We are trying to continue to serve food that our students love while they are away from school. Parents and Students may look up the menus at cozadschools.nutrislice.com. They may also download the Nutrislice Ap for their cell phone. Reminder, these meals are FREE for ALL children ages 1-18 and we have 6 pickup locations.
Our teachers miss you! On Wednesday, April 1st at 6:00 pm, Cozad Elementary and CEEC staff will drive through neighborhoods to say hello! Please practice Social Distancing/Staying Safe at Home Rules if you are lining your streets. You may also just park and wave from your car! Please see the route on the attached map. We hope that we can see many smiling faces and waves!

Update from Superintendent Mr. Ron Wymore 3/13/2020 Update on response to COVID-19 As you may be aware, Governor Ricketts along with Education Commissioner Blomstedt held a news conference this morning addressing the spread and response to COVID-19. Governor Ricketts commented that the state will mandate school closure if cases of COVID-19 show up that cannot be tracked to verified contact. Currently this will be done by ESU districts. Thus, if ESU 10 or possibly a neighboring ESU area has confirmed cases, the state will mandate a 6 to 8-week closure. I underlined currently due to things changing daily. At last count there are 13 cases in Nebraska and 0 in the Two Rivers area. The reason for closures and cancellations will be to slow down the spread of the virus. There are many sites that you can go to for updated information and ways to prevent the spread of the virus. Two Rivers (https://www.trphd.org/ ) is an excellent site to get useful and up-to-date information. The administration will be having daily meetings to stay abreast of information and keeping you informed of any decisions that we make regarding this situation. Sponsors and coaches are finding out that most if not all events are being canceled. NSAA has postponed District and State Speech and the SWC has cancelled the conference art/music clinic that was to be held in Minden. OPAA is working closely with the school to maintain a safe environment in the lunch room areas. A couple of things that we will be doing: All students will be required to use hand sanitizer before going through the lunch line. New cups will be required when getting additional drinks. If you are not feeling well, please stay home. If you are running a fever of 100 degrees or above you must stay home until you are fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine to reduce the fever. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this pandemic. Ron Wymore Superintendent
The NSAA is aware of the fluidity of COVID-19 and the potential impact hosting statewide events could have regarding the on-going public health threat. Many of our member schools are making decisions in the best interest of their student participants, coaches and communities. The NSAA is regretfully suspending district and state speech contests until further notice. https://nsaahome.org/nsaa-district-state-speech-contests/

To the Parent/Guardian of a Fifth Grade Student: The fifth grade students have the opportunity to perform as a large group ensemble at the May 4, 2019 Middle School Contest taking place at the Middle School here in Cozad. Previously, I had sent home a letter back in March stating that the Fifth Grade students will potentially performing for this event. The students have prepared very hard for this upcoming experience and would like to showcase their talents in a contest setting. The students will perform at 1:10 PM in the Auditorium. I would like the students to be in the choir room at 12:30 to warm-up for the actual performance. The Fifth Grade students will perform two numbers of contrasting styles to represent Cozad Community Schools. The contest is treated like a mini District Music Contest with the philosophy that students prepare age appropriate music acceptable for district music style adjudication. The judges are very friendly and understand the developmental age of our musicians. The goal is to educate the fifth grade students and help them progress their skills in a warm and friendly environment. Due to this event being in a contest manner, please have your child wear something nice for this occasion. I prefer no jeans or tennis shoes. The event takes place on a Saturday and is graded and I understand that other things are happening during this busy time of year. Please contact immediately if your child is not able to make it to this event. Thank you all so much for your support in this endeavor and as always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have in regards to this event. Paulsen's came to Cozad Elementary on two Tuesday afternoons to do a "Concrete 101" demonstration for the 5th grade students. During the first lesson, the kids learned the ingredients of concrete and about how concrete is made. They then got to mix their own cement and pour it into a form. Once it dried for a week, Paulsen's came back and the students were able to test the strength of their concrete bars by adding weights into a suspended bucket until the bar broke. Thank you Paulsen's for your time and expertise. Our students loved it!
